Chuck vs the Role Models

Original air date May 3, 2010

Season 3 episode 15

Synopsis

A homage to the tv series Hart to Hart shows Chuck driving a Ferrari along a road and Morgan introduces his boss, Chuck. Sarah is driving another car along the same road and Morgan introduces her as Chuck’s “girl”. Morgan is on a moped while speaking and there is a montage of second and third season scenes.

Morgan wakes up from his dream and goes to the kitchen where he finds Sarah in her nightie getting orange juice from the fridge. They have an uncomfortable conversation with Morgan trying to look everywhere but at Sarah’s nightie. She leaves to go back to Chuck’s room and Morgan says he hates Chuck.

The next morning, Morgan snaps at Chuck about Sarah being around the apartment and their having sex while he has none. Chuck tells him to get used to it as he is going to ask Sarah to move in. A cough is heard from behind Chuck, Sarah has overheard what he said. Chuck then tells her he wants her to move in and she refuses, saying there is no point. They are not a normal couple.

Sarah then lifts a section of the couch to reveal a weapon stash and Chuck reacts by telling her he doesn’t want guns in their home. She tells him about the 20 foot rule where spies have to have weapons close at hand.

In Castle, Casey joins them and they are briefed by Beckman regarding their assignment to observe the renowned CIA spy couple, the Turners, to learn about how to be a CIA couple. Casey will train Morgan to be a spy while Chuck and Sarah work with the Turners.

Chuck and Sarah host the Turners in their apartment and Chuck is nervous. When they open the door to the Turners, Craig Turner remarks,”Dear God, it’s us 30 years ago” to his wife, Laura.

Over cocktails, they discuss their past missions with Chuck and Sarah but Laura isn’t drinking. Craig reveals himself as a connoisseur of Manhattan cocktails and then tells Chuck and Sarah the mission is that night and it is about to begin.

The target is Otto Von Vogel and they are after software he designed that is able to crack CIA defense systems. Chuck and Sarah are to accompany them and ‘watch and learn’.

At the home of Von Vogel, the Turners are bickering and Laura gets drunk while watching Craig flirt with another woman. She tells Chuck and Sarah she is going to steal the software herself as her husband is distracted. She falls while trying to walk away and then her husband hurts his back when he tries to help her. Chuck and Sarah step in to complete the mission in their place.

They access the master suite upstairs but find Von Vogel has a pet tiger living there. Sarah wants to shoot the tiger but Chuck refuses, saying the animal is endangered and majestic. He flashes on the collar it is wearing and realizes the software is in the collar. They hide in the closet and come out when Chuck realizes the tiger has fallen asleep.

While Chuck and Sarah are identifying and retrieving the collar, Morgan and Casey are having a training mission of their own. Casey tasks Morgan with getting a phone number from a female customer and he tries but fails miserably. He then tries to steal Big Mike’s key card while he is asleep. That attempt is concurrent with Chuck taking the collar from the tiger.

Devon and Ellie are with Doctors Without Borders in Africa. Ellie is concerned by the men with guns and Devon offers to help her relax by making dinner for her. They are together and talking but Devon sees a snake slithering toward her and as he reaches for a weapon they are saved by Justin, a worker at the camp, who kills the snake and warns them to stay close to camp.

As Chuck and Sarah leave the party, they are stopped by the Turners at gunpoint. Their behavior was a ruse and they steal the software from Chuck and Sarah.

Back at Castle, Beckman is told the Turners went rogue. She questions why such a successful spy couple would go bad. Chuck and Sarah go back to the apartment with Chuck concerned that they could go bad like the Turners. As they discuss the Manhattan cherry that Craig made a deal out of, Sarah realizes they are probably staying at the hotel he mentioned that makes his cocktail properly.

They find the Turners room by following the Manhattan orders and apprehend them, bringing them back to Chuck’s apartment. While questioning them about their motive, Otto arrives with his tiger, Sasha, to search for the software. The collar had a tracking device in it so they found them easily.

Sarah takes the Turners into the bathroom and handcuffs them in the tub so she and Chuck can deal with Otto. Otto brings Sasha in and they search the apartment but the Turners have escaped. As Chuck tries to convince Otto that the Turners are his enemy too, the Turners return and rescue Chuck and Sarah. When Sasha roars and Otto is distracted, Chuck flashes and he and Sarah overpower Otto and the Turners.

In Castle, Beckman congratulates Chuck and Sarah on the mission and begins to question the Turners but Chuck and Sarah stand up for them- lying about the Turners motives. Beckman accepts Sarah and Chuck’s story. The Turners announce their retirement and leave Chuck and Sarah as the new CIA couple.

In order to capture the loose tiger while Chuck and Sarah dealt with the Turners, Morgan lured Sasha into Devon and Ellie’s empty apartment and escaped out the window into Casey’s arms. When they all returned to the apartment, it is destroyed.

Morgan and Chuck will have to clean up and Sarah arrives as they are assessing the damage. Chuck asks her to help but she says she was planning on moving into their apartment instead. She accepts Chuck’s offer to move in with him and explains to him that living her childhood and later life on the run has made her wary of settling down.

Casey tells Morgan he passed his spy training because of how brave he is and they settle on a truce. Ellie finds Devon in his tent and he is very sick. Justin arranges for them to be taken home and then makes a call on a Ring phone explaining that he gave Devon something that mimics malaria.

Points of Interest

Sarah freaks out when Chuck asks her to move in with him. “Why?”, is her response and she tells him they aren’t a normal couple. Later, when she accepts his invitation, she explains she lived her whole life surviving dangerous situations and using fake names. No one ever taught her how to live a normal life. She isn’t able to unpack her suitcase and actually live in Burbank until the second episode of season 4.

“Honey, darling, would you mind telling me what you’ve done with our small cache of weapons?”- Chuck

“I got rid of them, sweetheart.”- Sarah

“You actually listened to me?” – Chuck

“I can’t quite believe it myself.”- Sarah

Chuck and Sarah’s conversation that mimics the Turners exchanges reflects how unbelievable it would be for them to actually turn into the Turners.
